FRANCISCAN SISTERS OF THE IMMACULATE CONCEPTION, OSF

Who we are

The Franciscan Sisters of the Immaculate Conception is a religious congregation and an institute of Pontifical Right  founded in 1847, in Glasgow, by Sr Adelaide Vaast and Sr Veronica Cordier. Both came from the Franciscan monastery of Our Lady of Angels Tourcoing. Sr Vaast contracted cholera and left Sr Veronica as the sole foundress of the congregation. 

The congregation was established in Glasgow as an apostolic institute and follows the Rule and Life of the brothers and sisters of the Third Order Regular of St. Francis. As sisters in the Franciscan Penitential tradition, we commit ourselves to live out Our profession of Chastity, Poverty and Obedience in community, ever striving for a fuller expression of our baptismal call to conversion. 

The Kenyan mission

The Kenyan mission was realized in the year 1990, at the invitation of Rt Rev Raphael Ndingi who was by then the Bishop of the Catholic diocese of Nakuru. The founding sisters then were asked to work in Kasok Girls Secondary School.

Today, our sisters are found in: 

• Our Lady of Mt Laverna Molo formation house, Nakuru diocese
• Our lady of the Angels Motobo, Kericho diocese
• St. Clare's convent Olenguruone, Nakuru diocese
• Divine Mercy community, Nakuru diocese and
• Holy Spirit convent, Eldoret diocese

Apostolates

Our sisters are involved in different apostolates as they live and witness to the Gospel values.
